KCMO City Council Recognizes Green Companies Energy Star Award

RESOLUTION NO. 140811
Declaring October, 2014 as Energy Awareness Month in Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, there is an urgent need to address our growing energy and
environmental needs across the world and we need energy policies that promote
environmental sustainability and economic growth; and
WHEREAS, one program supporting these efforts is a presidential proclamation
issued in 1991 to make October Energy Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, for 19 years, non-profit organizations, large and small businesses,
government organizations, and concerned citizens have celebrated this month with
activities and actions to promote public understanding of our energy needs and ways to
reduce the amount of energy we consume in our everyday lives; and
WHEREAS, locally the Midwest Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®
(HPwES) program which is a partnership of the Metropolitan Energy Center, KCP&L,
and the former Missouri Gas Energy, now owned by LaClede Gas Company; and
WHEREAS, the Midwest Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program
issues annual Century Club Awards that, in 2014, recognizes Energy Efficient Home
Services (Erik Henson); Green CAT Services (Rob Jones); Green Improvement
Consulting (Luke Smith); The Hayes Company (Jeff Classen); Smart Energy Solutions
(Janin Carlson); Star Energy Consultants, LLC (Ben Meyer); each having completed
energy efficiency improvements of at least 100 buildings in Kansas City; and
WHEREAS, our City benefits from decreased indoor health and safety problems,
decreased energy use, and the resultant monthly utility bills; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby declare October, 2014 as Energy Awareness
Month in Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes
of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Century
Award recipients for their important contributions to the environment and sustainability
in our city and country and congratulate and encourage their efforts.

Gladstone Missouri ; Single Trash Disposal Company Resolution Fails

GLADSTONE, Missouri – Gladstone city officials have been talking about trash service for months the, resolution fails to pass.

Gladstone has six different trash services and Monday night, the city council hoped to decrease that number down to one, but failed in a 2-2 vote.

Almost 2200 residents signed a petition to block the measure.

Many people stood outside City Hall protesting the measure saying their basic rights were violated.

“I need the right to say which company I want, not have it forced down my throat and the price set for me predetermined for the next 10 years,” said Linda Walker.

“I think that was generally the public perception that we were forcing this on them and we’re not acting in their best interest and again that burden was on us to help them that we were trying to act in their best interest,” said Mayor Barry McCullough.

The mayor says he hopes to take up the consolidation at a later date.

I thinks he needs to take notice residents don’t want this limitation.

“Efficiency Kansas” Funding Snatched by Gov Brownback for Ethanol

The KCC along with the Governor’s Office anoounced 1.5 Million would be returned to Efficiency Kansas to cover 150 of the pending loans.

We are excited about this news . Although the money is not yet transferred as of yet. The Sun reports this news, no time line as given as winter bills approach…. To be continued

The State Energy office offered $100.00 energy audits to Kansas residents. The audits are needed to access improvement funding based on a comprehensive improvement retrofit plan. This plan was then approved by the state. Auditors received a loan amount approval by the state Energy Office. We were required to send homeowners notice of this amount within 7 Days of state approval. The approval letter stated homeowners could access 0% interest loans through their participating electric providers, repaid through their utility bill.

Estimated Four to five weeks ago the State apparently applied to re allocate funds to a grant for an ethanol and a methane plant. The state did not inform its Auditors, participating utilities, contractors, municipalities or Kansas residents of this. At the same time, Auditors, by the direction of the state energy office were informed we needed to increase the amount of loans to keep the ARRA funds. We did this. In the last 3 months we have completed 2739+ audits. Each approval letter from the state contains a loan amount and an ID number, which is the running total of audits to date.

At the same time as the state energy office at the direction of the Governor’s office was reallocating funds, they were with holding this information and presenting to the public that they had approved loan amounts which would be funded by this very same money. This is the math: 2700 (audits completed) X $7000.00 (average loan amount)= $18,900,000.00. This amount belongs to those people who received letters of approval until their Efficiency Kansas audit expires 1 year from the date of their audit. The Efficiency Kansas manual on line corroborates this information.

Energy Works KC EWKC combines an Energy Audit w/ Cool Homes or Energy Sense

Cool Homes or Energy Sense contractors are no longer required for EWKC rebates in fact no HVAC upgrade is required , the only catch is a 15% energy savings must be projected from the initial assessment for an Energy works kc rebate of up to $1000.

EnergyWorks KC has $6.5 million available to provide rebates and other financial incentives for homes and businesses that want to improve energy efficiency. The group made the announcement at a news conference this afternoon.

Previous blog entry …. EnergyWorks KC EWKC is a new rebate program for Kansas City Missouri residents. It combines Home Performance with Energy Star’s Energy Audit with Cool Home’s by KCP&L or Energy Sense by MGE. The details are final a home owner could receive an extra $900 rebates form the City of Kansas City.

There is a minimum of 15% Overall energy savings required. Energy Works KC is live as of 9-29-11. The first step requires scheduling a Home Energy Audit. The customer must also upgrade to an energy efficient furnace, air conditioner or water heater .

To begin the Energy Works KC Process you must create an account HERE , This is the MEC web portal where you enter some basic owner information and utility data. Then simply request an assessment from Green Improvement Consulting . You will be on your way to a more efficient, more comfortable home with utility lower bills.
