As we begin to hang up the holiday lighting around our homes we may also start to brace for the increase in our electric bill. If you haven’t already made the switch from your old incandescent holiday lights I’ll give you a couple reasons why you should.
First, LEDs (light-emitting diodes) are more efficient. Typically an LED will use 80-90% less energy than your standard incandescent light. This will greatly help reduce the burden of your utility bills during the holiday season. If you are a holiday lighting enthusiast this could save you big bucks. Running standard lights could cost you as much $310 while a comparable LED display would only cost $40.
Second, LEDs last longer. On average they last 100,000 hours while an incandescent only lasts about 3,000 hours. That’s less time in the future replacing strands. Lastly, LEDs are safer. This is especially true if you love the smell of a fresh Christmas tree. We highly recommend anyone who purchases real trees to use LEDs. LEDs do not run hot like the incandescent light bulbs do. This greatly reduces the risk of fire. Be safe, be efficient and save money all at the same time.
