Home Improvement plan

A HERS score measures a home’s energy efficiency much like your car’s efficiency is determined by the miles per gallon. Our consultants rate your home on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) where 100 is a typical new home. Our success stories dip as low as 8 on the Hers Index.

Contact us today to schedule your HERS rating on a new or existing home!

The standards for HERS Raters are established through RESNET, or the Residential Energy Services Network, and are recognized by federal government agencies such as the U.S. mortgage industry, the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. The training required is quite rigorous and ensures that certified raters are highly knowledgeable and follow a strict code of conduct. Quality assurance measures are used to ensure that every rating is done with the utmost precision. So what can you expect from a home energy rating? The certified rater will use a variety of tools to establish the energy demands of your home. Some of these tools include a blower door, equipment to measure HVAC duct work leakage called a duct blaster, thermal imaging and a combustion analyzer. Utilizing these tools, the rater will be able to compile data about the home that will measure its efficiency. Some of the of what the rater will determine include:

  • The amount of air leakage in the home and where it is coming from

  • The amount of leakage through the HVAC ducts

  • Potential safety issues

  • The amount of insulation in your ceiling/attic and walls and its effectiveness

  • Window and door efficiency

  • Insulation (or lack of) in areas such as basements, crawlspaces and floors over unconditioned spaces like garages and porches

So why get your home rated? Here are 4 benefits of owning a home with a HERS index score:

  1. Understanding whether your home is efficient or not.

  2. Helps calculate a more accurate cost of homeownership by taking into account the energy consumption.

  3. Cashing in on a higher resale value.

  4. Enjoying your home more with an increased level of comfort and more affordable bills.
